The UC Global Health Institute was launched by a planning grant provided by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2008. In 2011, the UCGHI received a generous gift from an anonymous donor to fund current programs and develop future initiatives.

The UCGHI has received additional generous support from the following:

Support from our sponsors has allowed the UCGHI to:

  • Establish three individually successful Centers of Expertise
  • Offer scholarships and fellowships for students and faculty engaging in global health research, education, and partnership activities
  • Create research and training opportunities for students and faculty, including international scholars
  • Offer online and in-person courses, seminars, and institutes on global health topics
  • Develop a proposal for the first multi-campus masters program in global health
  • Convene students, faculty, and staff from across the UC system at the annual UC Global Health Day
  • Strengthen partnerships with international collaborators
  • Support student-established initiatives

While the UCGHI has made great strides, we are eager to grow current programs and lay the groundwork for new initiatives, expanding the Institute's breadth of expertise. If you have questions or are interested in supporting the UCGHI, please contact us at
