7th Biannual East Africa Research Symposium in Kisumu, Kenya
On January 21/22 nine UCGHI GloCal Health Fellows combined with over 80 scientists and students from Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania along with faculty from UCSF gathered for the 7th Biannual East Africa Research Symposium in Kisumu, Kenya. The symposium was jointly sponsored generously by the UCSF-Gladstone Institute Center for AIDS Research with help from UCGHI GloCal Fellowship, and co-hosted by the Research, Care and Training Program of the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI). Presentations ranged from communicable and non-communicable diseases, reproductive health, cancer and emergency medicine. In addition, faculty supported a skills building workshop on develop research concepts, some of which are expected to develop into new research collaborations and proposals. To date, these biannual meetings have led to a significant number of new collaborations between scientists in East Africa. The next symposium will be in July 2015 located in Kampala.
