Gauvain and Rodriguez Appointed Co-Directors of UCGHI One Health and Migration Centers of Expertise
UC Riverside's Mary Gauvain, PhD has been appointed co-director of the One Health Center of Expertise (COE) and Michael Rodriguez, MD, MPH has been appointed co-director of the Migration and Health COE.
Gauvain is Professor of Psychology and the Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Success, Equity, and Diversity at the University of California, Riverside. Gauvain succeeds Anil Deolalikar as the co-director of the One Health: Water, Animals, Food and Society COE. Deolalikar, who has served in this role from the inception of UCGHI, was appointed Founding Dean of the UCR School of Public Policy earlier this year. Gauvain's extensive UC experience over the last 20 years in research and as an active member of the academic senate brings valuable expertise to the leadership of UCGHI. Pat Conrad is the co-director of the COE in its northern hub at UC Davis.
Rodriguez has been an active member in the Center of Expertise on Migration and Health since it was established. He now succeeds Steffanie Strathdee as its new co-director in the COE's southern hub at UCLA. Rodriguez is currently the George F. Kneller Endowed Chair in Family Medicine at the Department of Family Medicine of the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. He was also recently appointed the director of the new UCLA Blum Center on Poverty and Health in Latin America. With a deep commitment to addressing disparities and an established track record of leadership roles, Rodriguez will join Marc Schenker, co-director of the COE in its northern hub at UC Davis, to find synergies across UC for addressing critical migration and health issues.
