New safer conception toolkit to empower local healthcare providers and HIV-affected

February 29, 2016

A new resource is now available to help empower and educate communities affected by HIV. The Safer Conception Counseling Toolkit is a valuable collection of training guides and health education manuals about safer reproduction strategies. Developed from research conducted by UCGHI Center of Expertise on Women's Health and Empowerment member, Dr. Joelle Brown (UCSF), and colleagues spanning several universities in the U.S. and Kenya, this toolkit was created with the aim of enhancing the level of knowledge and empowerment that HIV-affected individuals and healthcare providers have as they learn and impart information on safer reproductive strategies that may decrease the risk associated with reproduction in HIV-affected partnerships.

The toolkit consists of the following components:

  • Healthcare provider training guide
  • Healthcare provider counseling guide
  • Preconception brochure - Male
  • Preconception brochure - Female

Funding for this work was provided in part by the UCGHI through a Junior Faculty Fellowship awarded to Dr. Brown in 2013.
