UCSB Health Equity Initiatives

Students will support the efforts of Santa Maria Women’s Health Equity Initiative, focused on supporting perinatal health of Latinx and Indigenous migrant women. This project seeks to understand and address the many barriers experienced by women from these historically marginalized communities in Santa Barbara County. Collaborative partners includes UCSB’s Health Equity Initiaves, the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department, the Santa Barbara County Promotores Network, among others. This position is remote, unless pandemic conditions permit, and  interns can find local housing accommodations.

Tasks intern will work on: Interns will have the opportunity to work virtually with the project team on a range of projects including community mapping, data collection and analysis, production of low literacy health information, social media production, development of community health resource inventories, among other potential priorities.

Skills required: Experience/interest in the topics of reproductive health, reproductive justice, migrant health. Highly motivated, attention to detail, writing and organizational skills. Must be able to meet via Zoom and respond to email communication regularly and consistently.

Internship timeframe: April – December, 2022

Hours per week: 6-10 hours per week
