Internship Description: The student intern will participate in an interdisciplinary team supporting formative research on maternal health rights awareness and intentions among migrant farmworker women in Santa Barbara County, California. This research project is being led by a UCLA public health graduate student, as part of a collaborative on the California Central Coast which includes: The Center for WorkLife Law (University of California College of the Law), CAUSE (Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy), MICOP (Mixteco Indigena Community Organizing Project), the Santa Barbara County Promotores Network, UCSB Health Equity Initiatives and the UCGHI Center for Gender and Health Justice.
Tasks Intern Will Work On: The student will work with a team of graduate and undergraduate students to offer support in data collection, interviewing, translation, and transcription, and will be trained to participate in coding and data analysis.
Organization Needs: Support in data collection, interviewing, translation and transcription, as well as coding and data analysis.
Skills Required: Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English required. Experience in translation and transcription desirable. Experience/interest in the topics of reproductive health, reproductive justice, and migrant health. Highly motivated, attention to detail.
Internship location: Santa Barbara County (preferred) but open to the possibility of a remote position, if preferred.
Language Competency: Bilingual in Spanish
Internship Timeframe: June 15-August 15
Hours per Week: Minimum 10/week
Housing Options: Dr. Melissa Smith, UCSB/CGHJ liaison will offer support to find low-cost room and board
Institutional Logistical Comments: Data collection will be conducted primarily in North Santa Barbara County, approximately 1-hour from Santa Barbara. Data analysis and team meetings will be held primarily at UCSB.
