Student-led Committees

For the 2021-2022 program cycle, Student Ambassadors have the option to indicate interest in participating in 1 of 3 new student ambassador-led committees:

1. Social Media Committee

2. Campus Outreach Committee

3. UC Global Health Day 2022 Committee

Please see below for 6 new student leadership opportunities to be co-chairs of a committee (2 per committee) The co-chair position will receive an additional $350 stipend.

Social Media Committee

General Committee:

  • Participate in pre-scheduled webinar meetings coordinated by co-chairs and UCGHI Communications Manager
  • Assist with brainstorming and content creation for UCGHI activities and initiatives to promote across Twitter, Instagram and Facebook
  • Coordinate posts and ideas with social media co-chairs
  • Attend UCGHI Communications webinar workshop on social media best practices

Student Leadership Opportunity 
Social Media Co-Chair Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and coordinate consistent social media communications, public relations, outreach, and event activities and materials
  • Develop a plan to consistently increase visibility and reputability of UCGHI as a global health resource
  • Expand and update UCGHI’s social media presence
  • Work closely with UCGHI Program Assistant and Communications Manager to coordinate posts on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook
  • Manage event promotion through social media platforms (UC Global Health Day 2022)
  • Attend all pre-scheduled UCGHI Student Ambassador Coordinating Team bi-weekly meetings
  • Communicate regularly with UCGHI Student Ambassador Coordinating Team and be accessible via email
  • Exemplify professionalism as a representative of UCGHI
  • Promote UCGHI within your networks on campus and areas of influence
  • Performs other responsibilities assigned by UCGHI Student Ambassador Coordinating Team
  • Commitment is January - June 2022 with an additional 2-3 hours weekly time commitment

Social Media Co-Chair Activities:

  • Create and manage UCGHI Student Ambassador Instagram account with guidance from the UCGHI Communications Team
  • UCGHI Communications Team will teach and host a social media general sub-committee and all student ambassadors in February 2022
  • Student Ambassador Takeovers of UCGHI social media accounts and student highlights
  • Feature a student ambassador each month on UCGHI social media (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) or website spotlight ambassador
  • Publicize UC Global Health Day 2022 at UC Santa Cruz
  • Each month, social media posts will focus on a specific topic related to the scheduled webinar speaker (January – June 2022)
  • Highlight ambassadors involved in activities, projects, research, or events related to the webinar speaker’s presentation topic (January – June 2022)
  • Publicize UCGHI and other global health, planetary health, and women’s health events
  • Follow different clubs/organizations on UC campuses and use social media to reach out and connect with them

Campus Outreach Committee

General Committee: 

  • Assist with cross-campus promotion of UCGHI Student Ambassador activities
  • Connect with student ambassadors on your UC or Charles Drew University campus to brainstorm ways to further promote global health events and opportunities
  • Attend committee meetings by co-chairs and UCGHI Coordinating Team

Student Leadership Opportunity 
Campus Outreach Co-Chair Responsibilities:

  • Publicize current Student Ambassador Program activities and events across northern and southern UC campuses
  • To develop and coordinate virtual outreach activities which promote UCGHI, both Centers of Expertise and ongoing global health events and opportunities across California and globally
  • Effectively work with UCGHI Student Ambassador Coordinating Team to assess and respond to their needs with cross-campus promotion
  • Build lasting relationships across the UC system and partnering institutions and organizations
  • Commitment is January - June 2022 with an additional 2-3 hours weekly time commitment

Campus Outreach Co-Chair Activities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and participate in campus-wide outreach projects and activities, including engaging local high schools, community organizations, and local and global partners
  • Work with COE Coordinators to identify a campus-related activity that student ambassadors would like to host (January – June 2022)
  • Reach out to the UCGHI community, UC staff, and folks interested in global health through effective communication and organization of educational programs
  • Collaborate with the Social Media and UC Global Health Day student-led committees

UC Global Health Day 2022 

General Committee: 

  • Attend committee meetings coordinated by co-chairs and UCGHI Coordinating Team
  • Assist with planning student ambassador group activity the weekend of UC Global Health Day 2022 on May 7th, 2022
  • UCGHD 2022 Creative Expression Contest support
  • Hands on support for day of event on Saturday, May 7th, 2021 at UC Santa Cruz
  • Collaborate with and support the Social Media Committee-led efforts
  • Participate in pre-scheduled webinar meetings coordinated by co-chairs and UCGHI Communications Team
  • Assist with brainstorming and content creation to promote UC Global Health Day 2022 across Twitter, Instagram and Facebook

Student Leadership Opportunity 
UC Global Health Day Co-Chair Responsibilities:

  • Serve as liaison and work collaboratively with UCGHI UC Global Health day Planning Committee 2022 in the development and implementation of coordinated marketing, recruitment, and outreach activities for UC Global Health Day
  • Participate in prescheduled webinar meetings with UCGHI Communications Team
  • Work closely Social Media Committee on content related to UC Global Health Day 2022
  • Tracking the performance of the campaign
  • Using social media marketing tools
  • Tracking customer/student engagement to optimize campaign content
  • Perform related duties as assigned
  • Must have leadership, organizational and promotional skills
  • Professional or personal social media experience and strong familiarity with creating content using Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for an academic audience
  • Ability to communicate/write effectively, open to ideas/topics, creative thinker, knowledge and interest in the UC Global Health Institute
  • Commitment is January - June 2022 with an additional 2-3 hours weekly time commitment

UC Global Health Day Co-Chair Activities:

  • UCGHD 2022 Creative Expression Contest! This student-led committee will be in charge of running and judging the contest. Last year’s materials (judging criteria, etc.) will be shared by the UCGHI Communications Team
  • Reach out to high schools, all 10 UC campuses and HBCU, other partnering institutions
  • Contact campus organizations to gain more attendees/spread awareness
  • Promote event on social media and coordinate with Social Media Committee
  • Hands on support for day of event
  • Plan student ambassador group activity the weekend of UC Global Health Day 2022 on May 7th, 2022
