This webinar explores how the concept and practice of global health are evolving in response to shifting political, environmental, and social realities. Drawing on the recent commentary “An Updated Definition of Global Health” published in Global Health Research and Policy, the panel will examine why longstanding definitions of global health require reconsideration—and how centering equity, planetary health, and action-oriented frameworks can better reflect the field today. Panelists will discuss the proposed updated definition and the “5 Ps” framework (People, Planet, Priorities, Policies, and Practices), and reflect on the implications for education, research, policy, and practice in an increasingly interconnected world.

Panelists:

  • Dr. Kathryn H. Jacobsen, University of Richmond
  • Dr. Caryl E. Waggett, Allegheny College
  • Dr. Oladele A. Ogunseitan, University of California, Irvine and UC Global Health Institute
  • Dr. John Olawepo, Northeastern University
  • Dr. Abram L. Wagner, University of Michigan
Moderator: Dr. Jessica Evert, Child Family Health International (CFHI) & UCSF Department of Family and Community Medicine
