Join the UCSF HEAL Initiative for a conversation celebrating the launch of Case Studies in Global Health: Illuminating Theory and Practice, a new open-access book inspired by the experiences of HEAL alumni. Bringing together 28 authors from five countries, the book uses ethnographic case studies—from Mexico, Haiti, Navajo Nation, India, and Nepal—to explore the social forces that shape health and illness around the world. Set at the intersection of reflection and practice, the volume explores how students and professionals alike can understand and act to change the structures that create and reinforce health inequities around the world.

In this webinar, editors and contributing authors will share the stories behind their chapters and reflect on how social theory can help illuminate the realities of care in resource-denied communities. Grounded in HEAL’s core curricular pillars of power & privilege, structural competency, wellbeing, leadership, and advocacy, the discussion will explore how students, clinicians, and global health practitioners can better understand and address the structures that drive health inequities.
