Three GloCal Health Fellows from the new 2024-2025 cohort were excited to attend the first annual Sparkman Center for Global Health Summer Institute at the University of Alabama, Birmingham (UAB), between July 18-24, 2024. Drs. Arjun M.C. from St. John’s Research Institute in India, Richard Muhindo from the Infectious Diseases Institute in Uganda, and Kelly Rutt from UCLA joined other trainees from around the world for this inaugural event. The one-week intensive workshop introduced implementation research (IR) in global health settings and provided training on how to apply IR concepts and methods to addressing health inequities in global health research and practice. Participants also had the opportunity to visit historical civil rights sites in the Birmingham area during their time there.
