*October 21, 2025 - Advances in Global Health, launched in 2020 by UC Press in partnership with the University of California Global Health Institute (UCGHI), has made significant contributions to the field by publishing cutting-edge research and fostering interdisciplinary dialogue on critical global health challenges. Over the past five years, the journal has provided an open-access platform for scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to share innovative solutions addressing health inequities, climate change, infectious diseases, and more. Despite its accomplishments in advancing knowledge and promoting equity in global health, UC Press has decided to discontinue publication of the journal, effective immediately, as part of a strategic shift in its publishing priorities. UCGHI and UC Press remain committed to supporting global health research and collaboration through other initiatives.

The UC Global Health Institute partnered with UC Press to develop Advances in Global Health, a peer-reviewed, open access, research journal that is focused on advancing health equity throughout the world and is committed to decolonizing and democratizing global health. Two-thirds of the Editorial Board is comprised of leading scientists from low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). The journal is dedicated to inclusivity and seeks to involve researchers from LMICs in all aspects of the journal, and specifically, encourages contributions from authors situated in these regions.

“Advances in Global Health will create a platform to promote scientific discovery, debate and discourse that eventually leads to improved health around the world,” notes Editor-in-Chief Dr. Craig R. Cohen. “The Journal will encourage submission of a variety of scholarly article types including full length research articles, perspectives, commentaries and letters that address the complexities of global health.” Full UC Press blog.
