In honor of National Post-Doc Appreciation Week, UCGHI Co-Director Craig Cohen would like to celebrate Chemtai Mungo, MD, MPH, FACOG.

Dr. Chemtai Mungo has just completed her joint Traineeship in AIDS Prevention Sciences and GloCal Health fellowships at UCSF and has joined the The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) as an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Mungo is a graduate of the UCSF School of Medicine, and completed her Master in Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. Over the past 12 years, Dr. Mungo has contributed to advancing cervical cancer prevention for women living with HIV in Kenya. Raised in Kenya, Dr. Mungo has brought her passion, keen intellect and professionalism to address this global health problem—women have a much higher risk of cervical cancer in low- and middle-income countries than in the U.S. As faculty at UNC-CH, Dr. Mungo will continue her work and expand to Malawi, the country with the second highest incidence of cervical cancer in the world. In addition, Dr. Mungo has become an active participant on Twitter concerning all matters related to global health.

While she will be missed at UCSF, we look forward to following her and her career, and to the times when our paths will meet again.
